Transform Your Google Ads Management with Google Ads Editor

Google Ads Editor is a powerful, downloadable application which offers numerous features designed to streamline account management, improve efficiency, and ultimately improve your return on investment. Using this tool, you can update your campaigns and ads in bulk. Uploading ads could take hours in Google ads online interface but takes only a few minutes in Google ads editor.

We had a new client a few months ago who was working only in the Google ads online interface and spending a lot of time in managing the account. They were pleasantly surprised when we introduced them to Google ads editor (and regretted deeply how many hours they wasted by not using it before). If you are new to this tool then you may feel a bit overwhelmed but once you are comfortable with using it then this is the only tool you will ever need to run your campaigns. You will use the online interface only for reporting & analysis as well as small changes such as budget changes to a campaign or target CPA/ROAS changes.

You can download Google Ads Editor directly from Google.

Why use Google Ads Editor?

Efficiency: Google Ads Editor streamlines the process of managing and updating your campaigns with all of the bulk update functionality, saving you valuable time and effort. This is particularly beneficial for small businesses with limited resources.

Control: The tool provides greater control over your campaigns, allowing you to make precise adjustments and optimisations. With advanced search, filtering, and bulk editing capabilities, you can manage your ads with pinpoint accuracy.

Flexibility: You can make changes anytime, anywhere, without worrying about connectivity issues. This flexibility ensures you can keep your campaigns up-to-date no matter where you are.

Error Prevention: Built-in error checking helps prevent common mistakes that can negatively impact your campaigns. By addressing issues before they go live, you can maintain a higher standard of quality and compliance.

Scalability: Features like copy and paste allow you to efficiently scale successful elements of your campaigns, facilitating growth without adding complexity.

In this blog post, we’ll delve into five important features of Google Ads Editor that can help your advertising efforts.

1. Bulk Editing with Make Multiple Changes

Creating new campaigns with tens of ad groups and hundreds or thousands of keywords at once can be highly challenging. One of the most essential feature in Editor is the “Make Multiple Changes” option. This feature allows you to paste data (typically from Excel or Google Sheets) directly into Google Ads Editor, significantly speeding up the process of campaign setup.

You can prepare your own excel file or can use template files provided by Google for keywords, ad groups, ads etc and then upload them straight into Editor.

2. Updating Ads and URLs

Updating ad copy or landing page URLs can be a tedious process if done through the online interface, where each ad must be edited individually. Google Ads Editor simplifies this by allowing bulk updates to all selected ads.

For example, all ads in one your campaigns uses URL www.test.com/a.html but you want to use www.test.com/b.html. You just need to select all the ads in that campaign by using Shift + Ctrl A and then go to the final URL section on the right most pane to change it to www.test.com/b.html.

3. Replace/Append Text

Google Ads Editor offers a unique feature that allows you to replace or append text in bulk, a capability not available in the Google Ads online interface. This is extremely helpful for making widespread changes to ad copy, URLs, or keywords and ad group names.

For example, you created a campaign with ad group names in singular form but you now want to change into plural form such as from ‘Sofa’ to ‘Sofas’. You simply need to select the ad groups and then click on ‘Replace Text’ button. On the pop up screen, find and replace the text from ‘Sofa’ to ‘Sofas’.

Or you have a promotion that has just finished and you want to find all of the ads that communicated about it and pause them – again just use the find function and then pause them all.

4. Copy and Paste Campaigns

Another time-saving feature in Google Ads Editor is the ability to copy and paste entire campaigns or ad groups. This is particularly useful when you want to duplicate a campaign with slight variations.

For example, you have created a campaign targeting only England but now want to create another campaign targeting Scotland. You can copy the current campaign by using ctrl+C and then paste it using ctrl+V keys. You can them simply change the targeting location to Scotland for the new campaign.

You can also move items between ad groups and campaigns. This makes it super easy to move keywords from one ad group to another without the need to create them from scratch.

5. Offline Editing

One of the standout features of Google Ads Editor is the ability to work offline. This allows you to make comprehensive updates to your campaigns without needing an internet connection. You need to make sure to download the account before you are offline so you have an up to date version of the account. You can review and perfect your changes offline and upload them by clicking on the “Post” button when you’re back online. You can even schedule post your changes for any future date.

Google Ads Editor is one of the most widely used tools by marketers across the world. We at Deep Footprints use it everyday saving a lot of time which allows us to focus on strategy for our clients.
